Dear Ones:
You are receiving this email because you indicated to either Ted or I that you were interesting in Geshe Michael's hypertexting project... congratulations! You are perhaps about to make history. :-)
I'm going to be running a chatroom hypertext class this Friday at 5:30 (Arizona time, be careful!); Ted has been hosting this meeting but is away on business this week (thanks Ted! :-)
Geshe Michael has asked that the first project we work on be to hypertext the ACI catalog; we (I say "we", meaning John Brady & crew :-) collected thousands of incredibly valuable texts for anyone's use; anyone can have this collection for their use for free. It really is an amazing thing.
The problem is, as holy lama Geshe Michael has indicated several times in the translator course, is that what we have collected is not in a very user-friendly form. So what we're going to try to do, for our part, is help that out a bit: we're going to start by hypertexting the ACI catalog for John.
Anybody interested? :-)
So not only will you be participating in a ground-breaking project at the beginnning stage, you're also going to learn a lot of Tibetan: the great thing about hypertexting titles is that they are full of really common, important Dharma words. For instance, does anyone recognize: 'phags pa bcom ldan 'das ma shes rab kyi pha rol tu phyin pa'i snying po? If you didn't recognize it, it's the Heart Sutra... so, by way of example, here's what you might learn hypertexting this particular title: 'phags pa is Arya, bcom ldan 'das is arhat, shes rap is wisdom, pha rol tu phyin pa is perfection, and snying po is essence, or heart. You'll see these particular words over and over and before long when Geshe-hla mentions any of these words, you won't have to wait for the translation. :-)
Okay, so what do you need to do? well, you need a computer, with internet access, and a chat program. Ted has kindly posted directions to download one on the dmes website:
www.dmes.org/software.html (scroll down to "chat")
if it doesn't work for you, let me know. You'll also, to fully participate, need to install the Valby Tibetan dictionary or else Ted's program for hypertexting (Hyperview) (it has Valby built-in) from:
hyperview.sourceforge.net/
... and that's it! :-) So let me know if you have questions or concerns or if you would like to be removed from this list; otherwise, talk to you on Friday at 5:30 (Arizona time! :-).
Peace, love, happiness to you,
eric
